A record-breaking Ceres Beach Clean Up!

What an incredible morning! Over 75 enthusiastic volunteers joined us on 20 July 2024 for the Ceres Beach Clean Up in partnership with APEX and Carana Beach Hotel. Together, we cleared a record-breaking 559kg of rubbish from North East Point Beach!

The mood was fun and festive as our participants, ranging from 8-years to 60-years, gathered with one common goal: to ensure a cleaner, healthier future for our beaches and planet. APEX distributed gloves and trash bags before the group split into teams to work on different sections of the beach.

A few hours later, we gathered again to weigh and sort the rubbish, and celebrate an impressive milestone: 559kg of waste, a new record for a Ceres Beach Clean Up! This time, we collected more metal items (289kg) than plastic (156kg) and glass (8kg).

Thank you to all our eco-warriors who devoted their precious time to make a huge impact. We couldn’t have done it without you! We are also grateful for the support of our partners. Thank you, Carana Beach Hotel, for teaming up with us and providing delicious refreshments. The treats went down well with our Ceres juices! Our heartfelt gratitude also goes out to Mason’s Travel, Eco School, District Administration, and of course, our main sponsor, Ceres.

The Ceres Beach Clean Up isn’t just about keeping our beaches beautiful and our planet healthy; it’s also about encouraging a sense of community and shared responsibility for our environment. 97% of volunteers reported a great experience, and promised to join us for future beach clean ups.

A key component of our Ceres Beach Clean Up events is environmental education. We were thrilled to note an 80% increase in knowledge about environmental issues relating to beach pollution.

Our next Ceres Beach Clean Up takes place on 24 August 2024. We hope to see even more of you there, ready to make a difference! Please click here to register: https://www.ioec.co.za/ceresbeachcleanup
